It's best to get the drivers from the chipset manufacturer anyway, like you said Motherboards manufacturers doesn't update their downloads that often. level 1.

In regards to Windows 7, its most likely that your board came out after Windows 7 was released and hence you will need to install the chipset drivers because they were not included with Windows 7. The newer the Windows version the more amount of basic drivers are included.
